I was having a phone conversation with my aunt from Mexico who is like a mother to me and I was telling her about all the wonderful projects that I have lined up, short and long term, when suddenly she said, “well, son, I’m surprised at your survival skills. I mean, you don’t have a steady job either and you’re doing everything to help others find jobs and play an important role in the resurrection of any economy at all when you don’t even have a steady 9 to 5. Personally, if I were you, I would have already gone out and offered to clean people’s homes, wash their cars, install radios in their cars, sell food or what have you.”


Initially, I gave her no response. Probably because I didn’t know why either. In fact, weeks have gone by since that conversation and I’m still giving careful consideration to those words. I had to give myself time to analyse the current situation and say which way to go. I also needed the time to analyse myself and see if my answer was valid or if it was just an excuse that rationalised my not working a steady 9 to 5. This week’s blog will look at those excuses and reasons as well as the factors that maybe lead each of us to make these excuses up. We will also look at an interesting concept that is beginning to be spoken about by many, including highly successful entrepreneurs around the world which should shed some new light to the job market and give us even confidence in looking for a job.


I won’t give you the option of choosing which news you wish to hear first. Unfortunately, I have to speak about the current situation before I give you the great news of what’s to come and what we can expect. Partially, it’s for you and I to value the good news even more and, on the other hand, for you to take advantage of the time you are investing in reading this to analyse yourself and see what excuses or reasonings you are feeding yourself. As CEO of KEEP THE WORLD POLITE, I want to assure you that my biggest concern is, though self-imposed, to make a better world and this can only be done by reaching people with feelings but also those who are skilled, willing to think, work hard, reason on things, with a desire to improve and carry out certain changes in their person, their attitudes, their mindsets and even their lives in order to begin exerting a positive effect on themselves first and then their societies. That said, let’s consider the factors and how these contribute to our work pessimism and the elaboration of excuses.


You don’t need me to tell you that the world is going through a very complex period and, for some reason or another, it seems as though that period never really seems to end in Spain since the real estate crisis of 2008. If the situation in Spain was already a bit concerning, along came COVID-19 and threw Spain and many other countries into a financial whirlwind which make people here doubt as to go out and find a job, create these jobs ourselves with all we know and know how to do or if we should join that long list of individuals who, sadly, have to request financial help from their governments and unemployment departments. For a lot people, it’s not uncommon to find that the savings are dwindling and something must be done in order to be able to pay mortgages, food, utilities and upon considering that, many of these same individuals concluded, “well, it’s not like there are a whole lot of jobs out there to choose from and I have so much debt that I’d literally have to work 2 or even 3 of these low income jobs to make do” because “besides there not being a whole lot of jobs, most jobs are really low in their wages that I find very little incentive to going out and finding a factory job when my education, skills and experience deserve more and better. Not to mention the fact that going out to work right now, exposes me and my family to COVID so I think the best thing to do is wait until all this is over and invest my time on learning more, spending time with family and applying to really worthwhile jobs instead of going out to work.”


I don’t know if you’ve counted the amount of excuses that we can make ourselves in one little moment of reflection and forethought. We can make up all the excuses in the world and, you know, all are valid and understandable being that, in fact, the situation is far from ideal. Unfortunately, too many entrepreneurs in Spain and elsewhere have, for a very long time, taken advantage of their almost hierarchical position in order to take care of their friends, acquaintances and family members and leave what’s left for those under them, if anything at all. Unfortunately, even though it’s the people under these who create, design, distribute, sell, assemble, etc., the prices are made to benefit the ones at the top and not the ones at the bottom who make it happen, which takes even further motivation away from effective job-hunting, as needy as they may be. If, on top of all this, we have a fear or being infected with COVID and then add our ego which makes us selective and say, “I’m way more prepared than this job”, well, we’ve got ourselves a killer cocktail of pessimism and idleness.


You must understand that I am, by no means, trying to justify people not working and surely do not want to contribute to pessimism, idleness and laziness. In any case, I want you to know that you are understood and have every reason to not believe in that job market…. If it refuses to change along with the times. I want you to know that you are not alone. That each day that passes there are more of us that have come to realise that those above are making astronomical figures while the rest are just getting by. Month to month. This blog is, more than a justification, is a denunciation against those abusive attitudes in the work market who find it fair and justified in telling their employees, “take it or leave it, pal. I pay you enough. There are plenty more people who would kill to make that one thousand some ought euros that you are getting paid” as if prices, cost of living and mortgages hadn’t risen since 2008. Of course, that’s unfair. However, we have to work in order to pay for things and provide for our families so our our very need impels us to look for something as soon as possible and even accept these precarious salaries that lead to austere lifestyles even if it were just for a while until something better or new comes up and, believe me, it will come IF THE PEOPLE ON TOP ARE ETHICAL, ARE CONSCIOUS AND HAVE A HEART. The best part is that this is not me who says so or who started this movement even though I believe firmly that things should be this way. In fact, who has said it has been none other than Mr. Mark Cuban. Yes, that multi-millionaire entrepreneur who has patents, businesses and professional sports teams at his reach was the one who said it. Sound familiar? Well, I’ll let Mr. Cuban be the one who gives you the good news as to how the game is about to change in the business sector and how administrators and directors of companies must care for the ones underneath and make up the majority of their businesses. And this good news can be issued out in two different tones. In other words, if you are a director of a company, a CEO, an elite member of the board, you do well to pay careful attention to what Mark Cuban says. And, if you’re an employee of a company, you do even better to listen as this could be a turning point in your professional career which brings lots of encouragement.




In this video, Mark Cuban explains how he himself is guilty of wanting to accumulate all the money in the world and be able to amass as many as belongings as possible but that that period of capitalism has passed and that now is the time to pay attention to those underneath which make our companies successful. Those who make constant sacrifices with their families for your companies to grow and have equity. Mr. Cuban also mentions that it’s no longer time to just amass but also to share so that all who make efforts and sacrifices may feel validated, valued, respected and more readily jump on our bandwagon as leaders of the business. Though it is obvious that the blue-collared employee may not earn as much as the entrepreneur who started the business, many times with much sacrifice, blood, sweat and tears, the entrepreneur does well to think to himself, “I could raise my salary again but if I raise my salary, I also want to raise it for the rest of my staff to whom I have delegated many responsibilities and duties to keep this business running smoothly and whose work allows me to lead a very comfortable lifestyle of gold with the chaps more often than not and outings with the family while my business flows.” What is commonly known as compassion with or without capitalism. Fortunately, Mark Cuban is not alone in this way of thinking and there are more and more CEO’s who are like-minded as far as the distribution of monies is handled in their businesses so we can positively and confidently say that ‘the world 2.0 has arrived and along with it new rules to the game as it wouldn’t make much sense nor would it be fair to play a completely new game with the same rules as another game where only you win and only you get to play house. Logically, in monopoly as well as in life, if we always play this way, we’ll be alone very soon when the point of playing was for everyone to enjoy. I’ll let those words echo for a while. At least until next week’s blog and I’ll end this one by saying that each one has an excuse for what they do or fail to do to work or not work but I do hope that we also have very powerful reasons along with the excuses that impel us to succeed as soon as possible, no matter what we do.

Hace poco me encontré hablando con mi tia de Mexico que es mas bien como mi madre por teléfono y le estaba contando todos los proyectos en los que estaba envuelto y que quiero desempeñar a corto y largo plazo y después de un tiempo caimos los dos en el hecho de que, a pesar de muchos proyectos, no tengo un trabajo fijo donde gano cierta cantidad de dinero mensualmente y voy a estar seguro el resto de mi vida, cuan funcionario. Acto seguido me dijo, “hijo, no se como sobrevives y te admiro pero me quedo admirada de cuanto tiempo puedes estar sin dinero y sin trabajo. Quieres ayudar a un montón de gente a conseguir trabajo y ser una herramienta en la recuperación económica de cualquier país y ni tu lo tienes. Yo, personalmente, ya habría salido a ofrecer limpiar casas, lavar los coches, instalar radios, vender comida o ¿yo que sé?”


Inicialmente, no le di ninguna respuesta. De hecho, esta es mi respuesta, semanas después ya que me he permitido ese tiempo para pensar en el porque esto es así. Tiempo para analizar la situación actual de casi todo el mundo. Y tiempo para descubrir qué hay en el fondo y qué suelo y suelen usar como pretextos muchas personas que actualmente se encuentran en el paro. En el blog de esta semana analizaremos todas las excusas, todas las razones y todos los pretextos ademas de todos los factores que quizá crean esos pretextos y, por ultimo, veremos un concepto que, debido a la situación actual se esta implementando cada día más en los negocios compuestos de personas que nos da esperanzas de que el mercado laboral empiece a jugar por normas justas.


No te preguntare que quieres oír primero, si la mala o la buena noticia. Por desgracia, he de hablarte de lo malo o pesimista antes de lo verdaderamente increíble. En parte para que valores mas la buena noticia y en parte para que te sirva el tiempo que te tomas en leer este blog para auto-analizarte y ver donde no estas teniendo éxito y que has de cambiar. Al ser el CEO de KEEP THE WORLD POLITE, te puedo asegurar que mi mayor cometido, auto-impuesto claro, es hacer un mundo mejor, lleno de gente con sentimientos pero también capacitada, dispuesta a pensar, razonar, querer mejorar y dispuesta a realizar ciertos cambios en si, en sus actitudes, sus mentalidades y quizá inclusive en sus vidas para poder empezar a ejercer un efecto positivo en si y en su sociedad. Dicho esto, hablemos de los factores y como contribuyen a nuestro pesimismo laboral y a la creación de pretextos.


No hace falta que te diga que todo el mundo esta pasando por un periodo muy complicado en estos momentos y, por una razón u otra, parece ser que ese periodo no termina de acabarse en España desde la crisis inmobiliaria. Hay altibajos, claro, pero parece haber una constante vital de poco empleo y poco dinero. Si ya la situación de España parecía incierta, va y acontece el confinamiento por COVID-19 lo que nos lleva a plantearnos si salir y buscar empleo, si mejor lo creamos nosotros con nuestros dotes, experiencia y conocimientos o si, por lo contrario, nos apuntamos a la larga lista de personas que desafortunadamente dependen del paro o de recibir un subsidio por parte del gobierno. Quizás te ha pasado o le ha pasado a alguien a quien conoces que se vio que los ahorros se nos acababan y era momento de hacer algo y nos pusimos a pensar en que tipo de trabajo podíamos salir a encontrar, a la desesperada y ante las circunstancias. Acto seguido, te puedo asegurar sin mucho miedo a equivocarme, que dijiste o al menos pensaste una de las siguientes frases: “si es que, no hay trabajos. Esta todo cerrado y lo que hay es trabajo en supermercados o abastecimientos o en una fabrica y yo, tengo tantos gastos que no me llegaría. Tendría que trabajar en una fabrica y después en un supermercado para que me llegue” porque “ademas de pocos trabajos esta todo tan mal pagado, tan mal compensado que no encuentro verdadera motivación para salir a encontrar un trabajo de fabrica cuando mi preparación y mis estudios no fueron para terminar trabajando en una fabrica o de reponer en una tienda” y es que “encima de exponerme a contraer el COVID-19 y posiblemente contagiar a mi familia, creo que es mejor esperar a que la cosa continue y de esa manera invierto mi tiempo y energías en encontrar un buen trabajo para cuando esto termine y mientras tanto paso el tiempo con mis hijos y busco, cuando pueda, ese trabajo con el cual encajo mas para cuando termine esta crisis.”


No sé si has contado la cantidad de pretextos y razonamientos que nos podemos dar en una conversación con nosotros mismos en una sola sentada. Son bastantes y, sabes, todos muy validos y respetables puesto que sí, la situación no es la ideal, ni antes de la crisis ni durante y puede que después tampoco. Por desgracia, demasiados empresarios en España y fuera de ella, han aprovechado su puesto casi jerárquico para cuidar de sus conocidos, familiares y ya lo que sobre es para los demás. Tristemente, a pesar de que son los de abajo quienes crean, diseñan, distribuyen, venden, montan y demás, los precios de los productos y servicios de la mayoría de las empresas están hechas para cuidar de los de arriba y no a los que hacen que suceda lo cual no nos da muchos incentivos para querer trabajar para estos por mucho que la situación apriete. Si a esto le añadimos que existe la posibilidad de contraer el coronavirus que pondría en peligro a nuestras familias y circulo, pues menos nos apetece o mas lo pensamos. Y, si a todo esto le añadimos ese toque de ego que nos dice que este trabajo sí pero este no porque “estamos muchísimo más preparados que para eso,” apaga y vámonos.


Debes entender que no busco justificar que la gente no trabaje ni quiero con este blog contribuir a la pereza y desidia. En todo caso, quiero que entiendas que eres entendido y que tienes razones para ese pesimismo en el mercado laboral si no cambia. Quiero que entiendas al leer esto, que no estas solo. Que hay mas de nosotros que nos hemos dado cuenta de que los de arriba cobran una millonada mientras que los de abajo apenas llegan. Es, mas bien, una denuncia contra esos abusos laborales que por algún motivo se ven justificados en decir, “oye, que te pago mil y pico euros al mes y si no te gusta, ya sabes. Anda que no hay gente que no daría lo que fuera por estar en tu lugar y ganar esos mil y pico euros al mes” como si los precios de las viviendas, el precio del transporte, del petróleo, de la vida, se hubiesen congelado en 2008 y no hubiesen subido nunca. Es injusto, por supuesto. No en cambio, hemos de trabajar para proveer para nuestras familias y dar de comer a nuestros hijos así que, nuestra propia necesidad nos impulsa a buscar algo cuanto antes y hasta aceptar los términos de salarios y vidas precarias. Aunque sea por un tiempo hasta que algo mejor llegue. Y creerme que llegara si los de arriba son personas éticas, con conciencia y corazón. No lo digo y no soy quien inicio este movimiento aunque creo firmemente que es como debe ser. De hecho, no ha sido ni mas ni menos que el señor Mark Cuban, empresario multimillonario que tiene patentes, empresas, equipos profesionales deportivos a su alcance quien lo dijo. ¿Os suena? Pues, dejare que sea Mark Cuban quien te dará las buenas noticias de como ha de cambiar el juego en los negocios y como los empresarios han de cuidar de la gente que hay debajo y quienes componen las empresas. Si, la buena noticia. La noticia que, si eres empresario, haces bien en escuchar y aplicar y si eres empleado, también, para que cobres animo en saber que las normas del juego cambian ya.



En este video, Mark Cuban explica que él mismo es culpable de querer acumular toda la riqueza del mundo y poder comprarse todo lo que el soñaba pero que ese periodo de capitalismo ya ha pasado y que ahora hace falta prestar atención a los de abajo que hacen que tu empresa tenga éxito. Los que hacen sacrificios con sus familias para que las empresas crezcan y se mantengan. Menciona que ya no es tiempo de solo acumular sino también de compartir con todos para que todos nos sintamos validados, valorados, respetados y con un propósito común. Es obvio que el empleado no ganara lo que el empresario pero basta con pensar, “me puedo subir el sueldo pero si me lo subo a mi, quiero subírselo a todos y cada uno de mis empleados a quien yo he delegado mi negocio y ciertas funciones y que, por su trabajo asiduo, yo tengo más que suficiente.” Lo que se llama, no capitalismo con compasión sino compasión a secas. Hay cada vez mas personas y, afortunadamente, empresarios que creen en esta forma de ganar y repartir dinero, que se puede decir que el mundo 2.0 ha llegado y con él, cómo no podia ser de otra manera, han llegado nuevas normas del juego. Porque no tiene sentido ni es justo jugar un juego nuevo con las viejas normas de otro juego y querer ser la banca y ganar todas las propiedades y avenidas a la vez. Como es lógico, en el monopoly y en la vida, si asi jugamos, nos quedaremos solos muy pronto y se trata de que todos lo pasemos bien. Dejare resonar eso en vuestras mentes hasta el proximo blog… Lo que más importa es que cada uno tiene sus motivos para no tener empleo ahora pero espero que también tengamos motivos de sobra que nos impelen a salir a triunfar cuanto antes.
